“Egg” Hall is one of the most iconic spaces in the Rectorate of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” Located on the ground floor of the central building, it carries the spirit of the past while embracing a renewed purpose that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity.

Distinctive for its elliptical floor plan and vaulted ceiling, the hall captivates with its spatial dynamism. Every architectural element is in harmonious dialogue with the others—from the prominent symmetrical Baroque staircase, which remains a striking focal point, to the intricate spatial relationships within the interior. Designed and built in the early 20th century, the Rectorate building has always provided functional and well-organized auditoriums, easily adaptable to evolving needs. In keeping with this tradition, the restoration of “Egg” Hall not only preserves its authenticity but also prepares it for contemporary multifunctional use. The primary goal of the restoration project is to safeguard and revive the original compositional and functional principles embedded in the hall’s initial design. Through a carefully considered approach, the space retains its grandeur and captivating atmosphere while meeting the demands of modern academic life.
